Picture Shiritori
Draw a word, pass the phone, and keep the chain unbroken — no words allowed.
Picture Shiritori is a cooperative drawing game. Two letters are dealt at random — say U and T — and the group has to bridge them with an agreed number of drawings. The first player draws any word beginning with the first letter; everyone after that reads the drawing they were handed and draws a word starting with the sound the previous one ended on. The last player has to close the chain with a word that ends on the second letter. No letters, no numbers, no speaking. At the end you line every drawing up and find out where the chain actually broke, which is usually the funniest part. One phone is all you need: it goes around the group and everyone draws on the same screen in turn.

So wird gespielt
- Two letters are dealt at random — a start and an end. Agree how many drawings you will use to bridge them, then hand the phone to the first player.
- Draw any word that begins with that letter. No letters, no numbers, no talking — the picture has to do all the work.
- Pass the phone. The next player looks only at the drawing and guesses what it is.
- They then draw a new word that starts where the guessed word ended, and pass the phone on again.
- The last player has to close the chain: their word must follow on from the drawing they were handed AND end on the second letter.
- Reveal every drawing in order, between the two letters, and see whether the chain survived.
So gewinnst du
Everyone wins together if the chain connects all the way from the first letter to the last one. It is a cooperative game — there is no single winner.
Tipps
- Draw the most ordinary version of the word. A clever, unusual drawing is the fastest way to break the chain.
- Avoid words that end in a sound almost nothing starts with — you are handing the next player an impossible turn.
Häufige Fragen
- Is it free? Do I need to install anything?
- The browser version on this page is free and needs no install and no sign-up. Open it and start drawing.
- How many phones do we need?
- One. The phone goes around the group and each player draws on the same screen in turn, so you only need the people, not the devices.
- Can we write letters instead of drawing?
- No. Letters, numbers and speaking are all off-limits — that restriction is the whole game.
- Who decides what to draw first?
- Nobody — the game deals a starting letter and an ending letter at random, and each player picks their own word within those constraints. That is why the chain surprises even the people making it.
